Professional and Civic Engagement Within the Field of Education
Through engaging in Professional and Civic engagement at The University of South Carolina, I have grown into a teacher leader who centers her practice around creating a classroom where all students can learn through the use of a positive tone, a strong community, and differentiated instruction.
Katie Winch Through my time as an Early Childhood Education Major at The University of South Carolina, I have been privileged to engage in a wide variety of experiences both within and beyond the classroom. These experiences have led me to discover the key understandings of
"positive feedback drives the future success of learners", "how to foster supportive communities for children and adults", and "differentiated instruction leads to the most effective learning for students". Through the development of these insights, I have gained a passion and drive for finding a way to reach ALL learners in the classroom. I will continue to take these insights with me as I pursue a Master of Education in Teaching, Learning, and Advocacy with a concentration in Diverse Learners and an emphasis in English Language Learners and also when I enter the professional field as a teacher of young learners. Positive Feedback Drives the Future Success of Learners"Positive Feedback Drives the Future Success of Learners"
"Positive feedback can help the learner and can drive the future success of a child’s learning. If learners associate emotional responses with content, then teachers should strive to create positive learning environments and give positive feedback to their students. When positive feedback is given to learners, learners can create positive emotional connections to their Learning." |
How to Foster Supportive Communities for Children and Adults"How to Foster Supportive Communities for Children and Adults "
"At USC, through my within the classroom and beyond the classroom experiences, I learned the intentionality of a community. I learned that communities build on the beauty and the brilliance of the diversity amongst their members. I learned that communities must be intentionally established in order to bring individuals together and to have order, respect, and responsibility within the community." |
Differentiated Instruction Leads to the Most Effective and Authentic Learning for Students"Differentiated Instruction leads to the Most Effective and Authentic Learning for Students"
"With differentiated instruction, children are given these options. They are able to take control of their learning. They build confidence through understanding their strengths and weaknesses and through exploring a wide variety of options and finding a strategy for learning that works for them. Furthermore, the use of differentiated instruction, prompts positive outcomes." |
