Artifact 1: Morning Meeting Lesson Plan from Community of Learners and Classroom Management in Early Childhood Education
In my course, Community of Learners and Classroom Management in Early Childhood Education, I had the opportunity to create a Morning Meeting Lesson Plan, an important element of community within the Early Childhood Classroom. Through creating this plan, and in particular articulating and creating the highlighted portions of this plan I was able to understand the intentional aspects of creating a classroom style community. This within the classroom experienced helped me begin to develop the understanding of developing a community. I began to recognize that communities needed to make individuals feel included, understood, and comfortable in order for them to thrive. This Morning Meeting emphasizes the importance of community and explains the desired objectives of creating a community and explains how the community would be established over time.
Artifact 2: Morning Meeting Reflection from Class Activity Community of Learners and Classroom Management in Early Childhood Education
In my course, Community of Learners and Classroom Management in Early Childhood Education, I had the opportunity to implement the Morning Meeting Lesson Plan I created and teach it to my peers. The highlighted portions of the Morning Meeting Reflection evidence the effects of a Morning Meeting on establishing a class culture. This was a key concept that influenced the development of my key insight. Seeing the effects of a strong classroom community made me realize how intentional you must be in establishing a community and culture for students. This was from a class assignment where we had to present our Morning Meeting to the class.
Artifact 3: Welcome back to Capstone!: Initial Welcome Email from Resident Mentor Job
Through my Beyond the Classroom Experience of being a Resident Mentor, an important component of my job was establishing a classroom community. Below, you will find the Welcome Email that I sent to my residents to welcome them to the Capstone Community. As evidenced in the Email, I aimed to establish a culture of openness and approachability which is crucial when building a community. This mutual respect that I established with my students and the effects that it had on my community (i.e. lower incident reports, less disciplinary issues) heavily influenced my realization of the steps, hardwork, and intentions that must go into the community that you establish.
Artifact 4: Intro Google Form from Initial Floor Introduction (See Attached Form) (Floor 11-Google Form)
Through my Beyond the Classroom Experience of being a Resident Mentor, an important component of my job was establishing a classroom community. Below, you will find the Floor 11: Introduction Form that I used to get to know my residents. As evidenced in the form, I aimed to ask questions about my students such as what are there birthdays, so that I could create a birthday wall. These small things helped to establish a community for my floor. Through asking these questions, my students felt comfortable coming to me and where aware of the fact that I actually cared about them as individuals.
